Trouble in Tahiti in Radebeul, Germany
The Landesbühnen Sachsen in Radebeul, Germany, is currently presenting Trouble in Tahiti as part of an evening called Inselzauber (Island Magic). This production shares the evening with the Offenbach operetta Tulipatan Island. The cast Ylva Gruen (Dinah), Paul Gukhoe Song (Sam), and Kurten Labonete, Florian Neybauer, Benedikt Eder (Trio), are under the baton of Hans-Peter Preu. This production is directed by Sebastian Ritschel.
“Bernstein's couple Dinah and Sam threaten to freeze to death from the cold of their loneliness for two, then emotions of unimagined proportions break out ... no joke, rather tragic melancholy of loneliness, also musically. If Bernstein himself asked why people didn't understand that the touching parts are the most important thing about this opera, then he might have felt something of it yesterday evening: It worked here, the magic of the island and the theater as a magic island; especially in times that are anything but magical. " - Boris Gruhl, Music in Dresden, 18 Oct 2020 (Translated from German)
This production will have additional performances through November.
