Free Concert Alert! Tacoma Symphony Orchestra's new Music Director, Maestra Sarah Ioannides, to conduct University of Puget Sound Symphony in Bernstein's Overture to Candide: 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2015, Schneebeck Concert Hall, Takoma, Washington

Posted April 17, 2015

On Friday, April 24, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., Maestra Sara Ioannides will conduct the University of Puget Sound Symphony in a free concert at the University of Puget Sound, the birthplace of the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra.  Maestra Ioannides is the new music director of the TSO.

This free concert is believed to be the first time a TSO music director has returned to campus to conduct the college's own student orchestra, a tradition long-practiced elsewhere by Leonard Bernstein, who returned frequently to Tanglewood and Curtis to conduct their student orchestras.

Maestra Ioannides will be leading the UPS Symphony in a program featuring three centuries of music, including Leonard Bernstein's Overture to Candide, contemporary American composer Russell Peck's The Upward Stream, and Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5.

7:30 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2015, Schneebeck Concert Hall, University of Puget Sound, Takoma, Washington.  Free concert; all are welcome.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
